A Brake drum is a braking system consisting of a bell inside which there is a mechanism integral with the axle, having at least two brake shoe in the form of an arc provided with linings. Under the action of cams or pistons, the lining of the brake shoe rub on the inside of the drum. The cams are actuated by a mechanical control (cable, pulling) and the pistons are the receivers of a hydraulic control.
